Rose Window at Notre Dame, Chartres
Rose Window at Notre Dame, Chartres

The beautiful circular painting depicts the rose window of Notre Dame Cathedral in Chartres, France.

There is much symbolism in stained glass windows and this is no exception. The red represents the blood of Christ and the blue purity and innocence. The centre depicts the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus. Outside of the centre there are 12 of each design as this number is important in the bible and symbolises faith. The designs include the French fleur de lis, the disciples and the angels.

This image was painted using acrylic gouache on Saunders Waterford Paper. It measures: 56x56cm.

This original painting is available to purchase. Please note it is sold unframed and framing can be arranged at an additional cost. Please contact us through our contact form to receive a quote.
