Lincoln Cathedral boasts two magnificent rose windows, both remarkably different from the other. This window is based in the north trancept and is often call the 'Dean's Eye'. It was first created in 1220 but owing to its daring structure at the time it quickly started to fail. Since this period it has undergone significant reconstruction.
The Dean's Eye comprises of a traditional set of imagery showing elements of the bible. The colours are also fairly traditional with an emphasis on blue and red (often seen as symbols of purity and the blood of Christ respectively). The colours are extremely vibrant and the details are captured with precision and clarity, inviting the viewer to observe the painting at length so as to appreciate all aspects.
