Notre Dame Cathedral Rose Window
Acrylic Gouache on Paper
This painting depicts the stunning north rose window of Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris. It was built around 1250-1260 and much of the original glass work remains today even after the recent fire of 2019.
The imagery of the window includes the central feature of Mary and Jesus, whilst the outer designs feature kings and prophets from the Old Testament. The colours of this rose window are incredible, with a heavy emphasis on red and blue which creates wonderful purples when viewed as a whole.
This beautiful painting was painted using acrylic gouache paints which are recognised for their flawless, vibrant colours and their light-fast qualities.
